Master of Science of Athletic Training

From the sidelines, to hospitals, theaters, military bases and more, athletic trainers can be found in an ever-growing list of industries. They are critical members of the healthcare team, helping prevent, diagnose and treat injuries and chronic health conditions. If you are a caregiver or interested in helping others lead healthier, more active and productive lives, this booming profession might be for you.

Demand for athletic trainers has never been greater, with rising salaries, many businesses offering signing bonuses for new hires and the US Bureau of Labor Statistics predicting 23% growth by the end of the decade. Athletic trainers can be found wherever athletes compete - from youth sports, middle schools, high schools and universities up to minor and major professional leagues. But that's far from all – ATs can be found working in hospitals, medical clinics, occupational health departments, military bases, fire and police departments, even in the performing arts (have you seen ballet?)

Become an Athletic Trainer

Carroll University’s Master of Science of Athletic Training program marries foundational knowledge with real-world, practical experiences. You’ll learn how to effectively provide care for others as you interact with patients of all ages and abilities in a variety of settings. You’ll apply what you’ve learned in the classroom through hands-on experience working at local clinical placements and internship opportunities around the country. This combination of intensive coursework and practical clinical experiences will develop you into a well-rounded and knowledgeable healthcare professional.

Your classroom experience will include time spent in the state-of-the-art Michael and Mary Jaharis Science Laboratories, including the study of the human body in our advanced cadaver laboratory. Though athletic trainers work externally to prevent and treat injuries, this unique opportunity provides you with excellent foundational knowledge in human anatomy and adds to your qualifications and experience. Your final semester is a required 14-week internship, where you'll fully immerse yourself working full time in the profession. Our expert faculty will help you choose an internship that allows you to succeed and best meets your career goals. Our students have worked all over the country in high schools, rehabilitation clinics, Division I institutions, professional baseball and performing arts organizations, among others. These practical experiences will help grow your network and make connections in the professional community as you begin your job search.

Interested students may learn more about clinical education and the capstone internship requirements by viewing the MSAT Student Handbook. It should be noted that students will be responsible for transportation and potential housing costs while participating in clinical education practicums and internships.

Admission decisions are made on a rolling basis until the class is full.
